The Cake Conundrum
After gathering insights into local bakeries, we then used A/B Testing to determine which found category Decadently Yours fit into. Initially users perceived Decadently Yours as more fun and friendly. However, upon learning that Decadently Yours creates products for both weddings and birthdays, classification into fun or sophisticated became challenging.
Customers described typically seeking sophisticated bakeries for weddings and more playful ones for birthdays and other events.
This leads to a key issue because many bakeries, including Decadently Yours cater to all types of events!
Overview
Decadently Yours is a local bakery in Guelph, Ontario, known for its beautiful and delicious products. Our goal was to create a website that reflected their high standards. As part of my studies, my team and I worked with the owners to design an updated website that matched their brand with a modern twist. I aimed to go beyond a redesign by implementing a feature that would save both the company and customers time, leading to the gamification of custom orders.
The final design maintained Decadently Yours' brand identity while streamlining time-consuming processes.

Usability Testing discovered that users prefer all the information to be present on one page, with out the need to scroll. Therefore, we switched the orientation of the customization pages to reduce the amount of actions needed.
The footer highlights store info to ensure
customers are able to contact the bakery
with ease. The placement of the store hours aids in eliminating customer frustration of coming after hours or waiting for a response to calls.

What Did I Learn?
Exploring user perceptions of bakery branding deepened my understanding of user experiences by translating service design from in-person to virtual environments. This redesign matured the branding and created virtual pathways for time-consuming processes. Working on these changes within a limited timeframe improved my task prioritization and emphasized the importance of maintaining a brand's values during significant changes.
Bakery Websites Knead a Refresh
While conducting a competitive analysis of the bakery industry's digital presence, I found that no local or corporate bakeries had modern or innovative websites. Therefore, when modernizing the Decadently Yours’ website, we knew that researching website styles was as crucial as developing out-of-the-box ideas.
To begin determining how to modernize bakery websites, we conducted interviews with a wide variety of age groups to understand current thoughts on bakeries. These interviews centered around both the in-person and online experiences of bakeries.
